Last Friday, the Tatnall Volleyball team faced a competitive opponent in Concord. The Hornets started with some nerves on their Homecoming and Senior Night, as they were down 8-14 early in the first set.  About halfway through the first set, Tatnall started to get into a groove and tied it up at 19-19. A late service run by Niyah Kellman ’23 and solid defense sealed the first set for Tatnall 25-23. Tatnall would use that momentum and lead early in the 2nd set, but the Raiders bounced back to even the score. The Raiders were able to close out the set 25-21. The Hornets were riding high in set three until the referee awarded a point to Concord at 20-18.  A strong service run broke the momentum for Tatnall, and Concord took set three 25-21.  The Tatnall crowd helped the Hornets rally to an early lead in the fourth set, but Concord eventually took the set 25-19. Captain Nancy Evans ’23 had a standout night on defense with 22 Digs, 4 Aces, and a Kill. Emma Kirby ’23 and Caitlyn McGonigal ’25 combined for 13 Kills, leading to constant tight sets.

Additionally, our JV girls battled hard as well against the Raiders. Our girls came out with a significant lead on Homecoming night with 6 straight aces from Sabria Streett ’23. The Hornets continued with a commanding lead with attacks by Ari Hernandez '25, Yasmina Gall '24, and Kayden Donnelly '25.  Setter Gigi Echternach '24 would add another service run late in the set, helping the Hornets win the first set 25-15. The second set was much tighter, with only a few points separating the teams throughout the set.  Late service runs by Tatnall would boost the Hornets closer to the win.  The JV Hornets would take the first win of homecoming weekend on a Yasmina Gall '24 Kill, assisted by Annie Mowll ’22.

After a tough, tight match on Friday, our girls laced right up as they faced Sanford on Tuesday, October 26. The Hornets know how to keep their audience on the edge of their seats as all 3 sets against the Warriors were close. Unfortunately, Sanford ended up winning 3-0. However, the Hornets did not go quietly with junior Nancy Evans’ 14, Digs, 4 Assists, and 5 Aces.

Our girls are now 5-8 and ready to bounce back as they face Wilmington Christian on the road today, October 28.
