Athletics
At Tatnall, the opportunity to learn and grow, to prepare for college and for life, is not limited to the classroom. Athletics is a vital part of the well-rounded Tatnall experience.
From competitive programs with a winning history to athletics facilities among the best in the state, our students experience limitless opportunities to grow and excel with Tatnall Athletics.
Our Philosophy
Athletic participation helps prepare every student for the responsibilities of adult life. Required participation in two sports per year from 7th through 12th grade gives every student the hands-on opportunity to develop leadership, teamwork, perseverance, sportsmanship, social growth, maturation, and healthy living—skills that will serve them well no matter what their path in life.
Tatnall’s athletics philosophy puts promoting teamwork and leadership squarely at the center of our program. Whether a student is an elite athlete or is trying a sport for the first time, every individual has the opportunity to learn, grow, and compete as a Hornet.
We expect our coaches, participants, and spectators to strive at all levels to develop and display the attitudes of good sportsmanship, teamwork, commitment, dependability, good work ethic, self-discipline, and loyalty to teams and school.
Our Tradition of Excellence
Tatnall's 36 interscholastic teams have a rich tradition of excellence:
Middle School Athletics
Middle School athletics participation exposes students to a wide range of sports offered at the junior varsity and varsity levels. Through Middle School practices and games, students learn fundamental skill work and strategies. Physical conditioning and training are also incorporated into each practice so that athletes can safely participate and meet the physical demands of a particular sport. Like each of the activities within the Tatnall Athletic Program, Middle School sports seek to build camaraderie and school spirit.
Emphasis
Middle School teams focus on instruction, participation, and cooperation. By participating in Middle School athletics, each student becomes a better athlete and contributes to the overall growth and success of the entire team.

Athletic Training
Proper training is essential to the success and safety of our athletes. The Tatnall School is committed to teaching our sports participants proper training protocols. Our full-time, fully-certified athletic trainer works with each of our athletes prior to competition to ensure they are prepared to play. Additionally, the athletic trainer attends practices and games in case of injury.
Each of Tatnall's coaches also promote proper training regimens, exercises and safety procedures, ensuring our student athletes are conditioned and fully capable of participating in interscholastic competition.
Physical Education and Athletics Philosophy
The Physical Education program is an integral part of the total education of the student. The Tatnall School strives to reach the broad goals of education through the development of the following skills: motor skills, knowledge and strategy, fitness and wellness, safety, participation, and attitudes and values.
A second component of our curriculum is accomplished through required participation in Tatnall's Athletic Program. As a result of their participation, Tatnall graduates will understand teamwork and proper conditioning, as well as their own physical strengths and abilities. Tatnall students can choose from a wide range of interscholastic sports, including traditional team-centered athletics and individually-focused lifelong sports.
