6th Grade Takes on Manhattan!

Middle School Art

On Wednesday, October 9, the Tatnall 6th grade got the opportunity to enjoy one of the signature traditions of Middle School: a day trip to New York City. The only thing better than the weather on a perfect early fall day in the Big Apple was the students themselves, who had a truly amazing time.

The day began with a guided tour of the Museum of Modern Art, where the students were wowed by the works of Monet, Kahlo, and other luminaries. Arranged by MS/US Art teacher Megan Acevedo, the students impressed the tour guides with their behavior, participation, attention, and reflection. The grade worked up an appetite walking from MoMA through Times Square and enjoyed the traditional 6th-grade lunch at the Hard Rock Cafe.

The group walked back through Times Square, wowed by the sights, sounds, and action of the city, and then arrived at the Neil Simon Theater for a matinee performance of MJ: The Musical. Having studied and discussed how literature, music, and theater could capture a moment or scene from life across their curriculum, the Hornets were truly blown away by the music, dancing, choreography, and effects. The show ended with every toe tapping, standing ovations, and curtain calls. Then it was time to board the bus back to school, another successful NYC adventure in the books.

For over two decades, the Tatnall 6th Grade Trip to Broadway has been a signature experience for Tatnall students, and this year's class loved every minute of it!
