The Championship of our New Castle County Schools happened on Friday and Saturday, May 13-14, at the new Abessinio Stadium in Wilmington.  This was a meet that challenged the best from 23 different high schools in our county and crowned the top three in each event as “All-County”.

Against both division I and division II schools, Tatnall girls had a tremendous showing placing 2nd overall.  With a strong combination of points coming from sprints and distance races, our girls continued to impress and improve.

All County Performances (top 3)

The Tatnall girls 4x100 relay team of Lexie Tarlue, Ariana Hernandez, Darian Harris, and Arianna Montgomery broke the tape with a gold medal in 49.89 and their fastest time of the season!

The long jump was strong for Tatnall with our own Arianna Montgomery jumping 17’8.75” for the win.  Placing third in the event was Lexi Tarlue with a jump of 16’6.5”.  To put that in perspective, there were 25 girls in that event from New Castle County!

Ariana Hernandez, pulling off multiple events this weekend, placed 2nd in the high jump with a jump of 4’10”. This event was a showdown of four girls trying to clear the 5 foot barrier by the end of the night!

The 4x800 relay team of Delaney Campanelli, Malana Neal, Mikayla Romeo, and Katie Payne placed 3rd in a hotly contested race with a season best time of the entire year of 9:41.19.

Camille Johnson continues to improve her mark in the triple jump with a soaring 35’0.25” AND setting a new Tatnall Freshman record! Amazing!

Tatnall girls 4x400 relay team placed 3rd in a nail biter finish.  The team of Delaney Campanelli, Malana Neal, Mikayla Romeo, and Camille Johnson again beat their season best with a time of 4:10.07

The 4x200 relay team of Darian Harris, Camille Johnson, Lexi Tarlue, and Ariana Hernandez placed 3rd with a division II leading time in the state of 1:46.72.

The versatile Lexi Tarlue collected many All County medals this day but her performance in the highly technical 100 meter hurdles with a time of 16.11 landed her another medal - 3rd place!

Katrina Endres took on the state’s best 3200 meters runners by leading the race for 6 of the 8 laps with confidence and courage and placed 3rd overall in a near best time of 11:16.53. Her pacing up-front running in this, the longest event of the day, helped keep this race honest and fast.

Arianna Montgomery’s blazing fast speed took her to the finish line in the 100 meters with a time of 12.70 seconds and a 3rd place finish.  She then went to the 200 meters and placed 2nd out of 53 girls with a time of 25.62!  What a day for this young 8th grade trackster!

While not an All-County performance - it should be mentioned that Lola Olubowale broke the Tatnall girls freshman shot put record with a distance of 23’5”! Congratulations Lola!

Tatnall Boys ALL COUNTY (Top 3 finishes)

This is one of the most competitive meets of the year and witnessed schools from both division I (larger schools) and division II (smaller schools) go head to head on the track and in the field.

The most decorated male indoor track athlete from last winter track was at it again with his willingness to set the pace and his need to win races.  His name is Nicolas Pizarro.  Nic began his day by anchoring Tatnall’s winning 4x800 relay team to victory over 21 schools. The relay team of Andre Latina, Micah Earnest, Sebastian Pizarro, and Nic Pizarro led from the gun to the finish line besting closest competition and rival, Salesianum, by over 6 seconds!  Nic Pizarro’s anchor leg split of 1:56.5 sealed the victory.

The next day of competition saw Nic Pizarro and twin brother Seb Pizarro in the 1600 meters (mile).  Nic Pizarro led from the start with Seb close behind in the lead pack.  Nic won gold in a time of 4:21.20 followed by 4th place brother in a huge new lifetime best of 4:28.36!

Later in the day Nic Pizarro returned to the track for a heated showdown in the 800 meters (half mile).  The pressure was on as the nearest competitor had a time within a second of Pizarro.  The race resulted in both Tatnall boys - Nic Pizarro and Andre Latina pushing the limits.  Around the final turn, Pizarro pulled away to win in 1:55.37 and Latina crushed his old best to place 4th in 1:58.75!

The final event of the day saw the Tatnall boys 4x400 relay team of Andre Latina, Sebastian Pizarro, Micah Earnest, and Nic Pizarro race to 3rd with a season best of 3:28.59.  These four boys ran ferociously and on anchor, Nic Pizarro’s split of 49.95 was his first time under the 50 second mark.
