Tuesday, February 1, the Tatnall Girls Basketball team traveled to conference rival, and top 3 ranked Sanford’s gymnasium buzzing with a calm intensity and ready to topple the basketball powerhouse. Our girls came out a little stiff at first as shots continuously rimmed out or had unlucky bounces, but they hustled and outworked a strong Sanford offense to remain in striking distance the entire first half. Sanford 37, Tatnall 28 going into the 3rd quarter, the Hornets gave a passionate, relaxed, and driven performance to add 15 to their score while holding Sanford to 4 points. Going into the fourth quarter, Sanford 41, Tatnall 43. The gym was loud, and our girls were starving for this win. However, with 4 minutes left in the game, Sanford got a lucky bucket that put them ahead by two and immediately went into a stall offensively because they didn’t have enough answers for the Hornets. With an unlucky turnover by Tatnall and attempting to put Sanford on the free-throw line to get the ball back, the game’s fate was eventually sealed, with Tatnall losing by three. Overall scoring was spread out: Bri Gautier '23 had 12, Cherish Bryant '25 and Emma Kirby '23 had 11 each, Sophie Kirby '22 had 7, and Kali Clayton '23 had 6.

While losing is tough, our girls have bounced back and are looking forward to playing Delmarva Christian High School this Saturday, February 5.
