Swimming Achievement

On Tuesday, December 14, the Tatnall Swim team faced off against a consistently strong swim team, Archmere.

The Boys team did an excellent job fighting their way to a tie against Archmere on Tuesday. Down by 4 heading into the final event of the meet, the Tatnall 400 Free Relay of Blake Erkenbrecher ’26, Briggs Light ’22, Ryan Christopher ’25, and Niles Commodore ’24 won the event in order to secure a tie. The Hornets also benefitted from a number of great individual performances in the pool. Commodore and Christopher went 1 - 2, respectively, in both the 50 Free and 100 Fly. Erkenbrecher and Light also combined for a 1 - 2 finish in the 500 Free. The 200 Free Relay of Aiden Huber ’23, Commodore, Erkenbrecher, and Christopher also took 1st.

The Girls team was outnumbered in the pool against Archmere, but had some excellent individual swims. In her first meet for the Hornets, 8th grader Anna Hammerschmidt won the 100 Breast and took 2nd in the 50 Free. In the closest race of the meet, Stella Petersen ’25 was just touched out in the 200 IM, but still took 2nd with a personal best time. Alicia Lambe ’22 and Morgan Noel ’26 joined Petersen and Hammerschmidt in the 400 Free Relay to take 2nd place. They came back from 3rd place on the last lap to take 2nd.

The Hornets continued to show promise as we added to our already sizable list of individual state qualifiers. Stella Petersen ’25 got her cut in the 200 IM after already qualifying in the 100 Fly last week. Anna Hammerschmidt ’26 got her 50 Free and 100 Breast state cuts. Additionally, 5 Hornets dropped time in individual events from last week: Senior Briggs Light (200 Free, 500 Free), senior Alicia Lambe (500 Free, 100 Back) sophomore Niles Commodore (50 Free), 8th-grader Blake Erkenbrecher (500 Free), and 8th-grader Jacob Politis (100 Breast).

Our swim team will return from break stronger than ever and ready to face St. Andrews on Tuesday, January 4.
